Swine Management

Jon Bronnenberg

I am the Senior Swine Production Consultant and head of sourcing both pigs and production facilities for our customer’s contract swine feeding operations. I was born in Madison County Indiana and grew up there on a Cattle, Hay, and Grain Operation. I became interested in hogs around 1970 and signed up for 4-H in the Swine Project. That was the beginning of my  career in the Swine Industry. Immediately after High School I was offered two Herdsman Positions on two different Farrow to Finish Operations. I accepted one and thus began my practical education in the Swine Industry. I spent the next 13 years working on or managing three different Farrow to Finish Operations. On September 1, 1990 I went to work for Huntington County Co-op as a Feed Salesman and to manage their Swine Contract Feeding Operation. A lot of changes have taken place over the last 27 years but I am still with the Co-op system in the Swine Division. I very much enjoy my job and look forward to working with and helping people every day.

I was raised on a farrow to finish swine farm.  In 1997, I graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Animal Sciences and returned to our family farm where I was an owner and operator of our 400 sow operation until 2012.  In June 2012, I joined Synergy Feeds LLC as a service manager while continuing to help with the grain side of our family’s farm. Some of my responsibilities with Synergy include grading new pig arrivals, marking market loads, and helping growers with health and barn environment decisions.  I enjoy that I still get to work in the swine industry and get the opportunity to meet and work with more people than when I was solely in my own barns.  I maintain my PQA Plus and TQA certification, and enjoy attending conferences to keep up with changes in the industry.  Recently, I attended Carthage Veterinary’s Annual Swine Conference.  My wife and I also enjoy working with my son and daughter on their 4-H swine projects to teach them the responsibilities of how to properly care for and handle their pigs.
